As an organization committed to fostering inclusive excellence in education, workplaces, and society, the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) strongly condemns President Trump’s unfounded and misleading assertion that diversity, equity, and inclusion played a role in the tragic plane crash which claimed the lives of 67 human beings.
The suggestion that diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives compromise the safety or the competence of professionals is not only factually baseless but also dangerous. It perpetuates misinformation and undermines efforts to create equitable opportunities for all individuals, regardless of background. Diversity, equity, and inclusion do not lower standards—they strengthen institutions, workplaces, and communities by ensuring that the most talented, qualified individuals from all walks of life have access to opportunities and are equipped to contribute to society’s success.
Aviation safety is grounded in rigorous training, not in political rhetoric. Using a tragedy to vilify diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives is more than irresponsible, it shows President Trump’s clear disregard for humanity.
