The National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE) hosted the Future Vista Impact Summit, a national, virtual convening on Thursday, February 13, 2025. This event—made possible by the support of Higher Ed Forward—brought together more than 80 corporate executives, higher education leaders, and chief diversity officers to engage in critical discussions about the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and beyond.
The summit's theme was “Envisioning and Championing the Future for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion," challenging participants to not only sustain diversity efforts but to accurately define their purpose and impact. Discussions explored who benefits from diversity, equity and inclusion, why it remains vital to institutional and societal progress, and how it intersects with democracy, economic growth, national security and global competitiveness. Participants addressed misconceptions about diversity, equity, and inclusion, navigating challenges, and forging new pathways to inclusive excellence in institutions and workplaces.
The three featured speakers at the Future Vista Impact Summit were Daryl Smith, Senior Research Fellow and Professor Emerita of Education and Psychology at The Claremont Graduate University; Effenus Hendersen, a highly sought-after thought leader who works with global organizations, including collaborations with teh United Nations; and Jesse Moore, an American writer, political analyst, and strategic leader at the intersection of social justice, media, and politics. These thought leaders provided insight into the evolving diversity, equity, and inclusion landscape and proposed actionable strategies for ensuring it remains a driving force in institutional culture and policy.
“As the preeminent voice for diversity officers in higher education, NADOHE is committed to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion at a time when its purpose is being misrepresented and its impact underestimated,” said Paulette Granberry Russell, president and CEO of NADOHE. “In a time of shifting challenges and opportunities for this work, it is essential for leaders across sectors to come together to strategize and reaffirm our commitment to inclusive excellence.”
“Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not abstract ideals—they are components of a thriving, competitive, and just society,” said Clyde Wilson Pickett, chair of NADOHE’s board of directors. “The Future Vista Impact Summit brought together leaders who are committed to ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion remain a core value in education, business, and society. By convening experts across industries, we can develop strategies that drive meaningful, lasting change.”
